Why IQA Matters
Quality assurance protects trainees, strengthens employability and keeps MMTVC accountable to national TVET standards.
Maintains standards, quality and relevance of training programmes.
Supports evidence-based decision making across departments.
Links trainee feedback to practical improvement actions.
Prepares the institution for self-assessment and regulatory oversight.
IQA in TVET
Kenya's TVET system requires institutions to establish internal quality assurance alongside TVETA's external quality assurance role. MMTVC aligns its IQA approach with the TVETA Quality Management System and Assurance Manual.
National TVET law places responsibility on institutions to maintain internal systems for standards and relevance.
TVETA sets guidelines, conducts external monitoring and evaluates compliance.
Institutions conduct internal audits, self-evaluation and annual returns.
Quality Dimensions
TVETA quality audits use seven criteria. This page describes the framework — it does not publish institution-specific audit scores.
01
Leadership, Management and Governance
How the institution is led, governed and managed to support quality objectives and accountability.
02
Physical Resources
Workshops, equipment, facilities and learning environments that support safe and effective training.
03
Human Resources
Qualified trainers, support staff and professional development aligned to programme delivery.
04
Training Delivery
Instructional methods, timetabling, industry engagement and learner-centred delivery of competency-based training.
05
Programme Evaluation
Review of curriculum relevance, assessment alignment and programme outcomes for continuous improvement.
06
Trainee Support Services
Guidance, welfare, health, career support and services that help trainees succeed in training.
07
Innovation, Research and Cooperation
Partnerships, innovation, research and industry collaboration that strengthen training quality.
Trainee Voice
Quality intelligence relies on ground-truth feedback. Trainee views help MMTVC identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Institutions are required to conduct self-assessment and submit annual returns to TVETA in the prescribed format. At MMTVC, self-assessment helps the College prepare for continuous improvement and external oversight.
Review practices against national TVET standards and institutional expectations.
Identify gaps in delivery, resources, assessment or trainee support.
Plan improvement actions before external evaluation.
Submit annual returns to TVETA in the prescribed format.
Continuous Improvement
Quality is maintained through a repeating cycle of evaluation, intervention and verification.
1. Evaluation & Audit
Systematic review of institutional processes against national TVET standards and institutional policies.
2. Intervention & Enhancement
Targeted actions to address identified gaps in delivery, resources or support.
3. Assurance Verification
Confirming that improvements are embedded and quality baselines are maintained.

Industry engagement helps keep training relevant and trainees ready for the workplace. IQA looks at how these links support programme quality.
Industry partnerships that inform programme relevance.
Workplace exposure and practical learning opportunities.
Employer feedback on graduate readiness and skills gaps.
Alignment of training outcomes with labour-market needs.

Review of training methods to improve learner outcomes.
Assessment and Quality
Fair, valid and confidential assessment protects trainees and certifies competence. Institutions must monitor assessment procedures and use results to improve curriculum and delivery.
Analyze trainee performance through appropriate assessment methods.
Use assessment results to evaluate and revise curriculum and methodology.
Ensure confidentiality of tests, assessments and results.
Regularly monitor assessment procedures for adequacy and accuracy.

Student health and welfare services.
Wellness and counselling support.
Career guidance and progression pathways.
Student representation and engagement channels.
Legal and Regulatory Framework
MMTVC's Internal Quality Assurance is grounded in Kenya's TVET legal framework and TVETA guidelines.
Institutions shall analyze trainee performance, use assessment results to review curriculum and methodology, ensure confidentiality of assessments, and monitor assessment procedures.
TVET Institutions Regulations, 2015 — Section 22
Institutions shall conduct self-assessment and submit annual returns to TVETA in the prescribed format.
TVETA's Role
TVETA is Kenya's regulator for technical and vocational education and training. Internal QA at MMTVC complements — and does not replace — TVETA's external oversight.
TVETA (external): sets standards, accredits institutions and programmes, and monitors regulatory compliance.
MMTVC (internal): plans, audits, self-evaluates and improves quality day to day within the institution.
Both work together: strong internal systems prepare the College; external assurance verifies national standards.
IQA Structure
The TVETA Quality Management System and Assurance Manual describes a quality assurance committee headed by an Internal Quality Assurance Officer. MMTVC does not publish committee membership on this page. Typical responsibilities include:
Coordinate development and implementation of the IQA policy.
Develop and coordinate the IQA annual work plan.
Conduct internal quality audits and prepare audit reports.
Conduct institutional self-evaluation.

Through planning, monitoring and review, we work to maintain standards that serve our trainees, trainers and partners — in line with national TVET requirements.
Transparency
Quality Culture
Quality is everyone's responsibility — leadership, trainers, support staff and trainees. A strong quality culture listens, learns and improves without waiting for an external audit.
01Use evidence — not assumptions — to guide improvement.
02Treat feedback as a resource for better services.
03Document processes and act on audit findings.
04Align daily practice with national TVET standards.
