Maasai Mara TVC was honored to have hosted the Director TVET Dr Meshack Chuma Opwora who was the chief guest for the graduation ceremony of the CBET delivery methodologies training. In partnership with CICan through the Young Africa Works in Kenya-TVET MasterCard foundation, Maasai Mara TVC hosted members from the Kenya School of TVET for a 2-week CBET delivery training aimed at retooling TVET trainers to boost implementation of CBET in Kenyan Institutions. The state department for TVET PS in a circular earlier in the year had directed that all admissions in TVET institutions across the country commencing from September 2023 intake be for CBET based courses. The State Department for TVET PS further added that the implementation of CBET in Kenya is a presidential directive. The PS Dr. Muoria called on all the TVET agencies; TVET CDACC, TVETA, KNQA, Kenya School of TVET and all the stakeholders in the TVET sub-sector to play their facilitative role in ensuring that there is a smooth CBET curriculum in Kenya. The PS further noted that there is a huge need to ensure that TVET trainers have requisite practical skills adding that this is fundamental in the implementation of CBET because trainers will have an opportunity to be skilled on the use of the state-of-the-art equipment.
During his visit, The Director Dr Meshack reiterated the PS sentiments and extended his appreciation to facilitators from KSTVET for the good job they are undertaking. He expressed confidence in KSTVET in achievement of the retooling objective meant to be conducted in all TVET institutions nationwide. He noted that 1400 trainers drawn from National polytechnics and other institutions in different regions have undergone retooling and many more to follow in the coming year. He also appreciated the collaborative effort with CICan in YAW-K and Maasai Mara TVC for being a prominent participant in the program. He noted that the CBET delivery methodologies training represents an ongoing commitment in in-service training of trainers as the training marks cohort 2 phase 2 of the program. “CBET is the way forward and we will not be going back. The future of CBET is here”, he said. The director who was accompanied by ILO, SD TVET Dr Mary Koigi also put emphasis on the dual training program which ensures that trainees spend time in the industry whilst also studying to enhance industry alignment and practical training. He directed that the institution ensures the program is actualized and running smoothly to ensure seamless transitioning of trainees from the college to the industry environment where they can have a big impact. The director called on the principal to enter into collaborations with various industries in order to enable the smooth implementation of CBET.
